Jalandhar, July 8: Narinder Chauhan, 31, a resident of Tej Mohan Nagar, has been arrested by the district police from Delhi for the murder of his transgender wife Shama, 27, whose body was found in his rented house in Tej Mohan Nagar here on April 30. Narinder had been absconding since then.

transgender wifeThe police said he had solemnised a ‘love marriage’ with Shama of Gill Colony in May 2006, but on the wedding night, he discovered that Shama was a eunuch.

The police said the day he found that Shama was a transgender, he deserted her and left the city and moved to Delhi with his mother where he had been living for the past 11 years.

Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Gurmeet Singh, who was accompanied by additional DCP D Sudarvizhi, said that Chauhan did not forget the insult over the years and nurtured a grudge against Shama and wanted to take revenge.

“A few days before the incident, he came to the city with his mother and called Shama on April 30 to his rented accommodation in Tej Mohan Nagar. Unaware of his intention, Shama came to his place. He then attacked her with a knife and killed her,” the police officials added. The police had recovered the knife from the spot. After committing the crime, Narinder and his mother again left for Delhi. The police had recovered the body of Shama on the same day on the information of neighbours.

The police got information about their stay in Delhi and a team was sent to arrest them on Thursday. They were brought here on Friday.

DCP said the role of his mother Sudesh Kumari is being probed as Chauhan is denying her role in the killing. A case has been registered against Chauhan and Kumari under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC on the statement of Shama’s mother Bholi at police station-5.
