Mianwind was elected the us Punjab Legislative Assembly from Khadoor Sahib in 2002. In 2007, he was re-elected from Khadoor Sahib. In 2012, he successfully contested from the new constituency Baba Bakala. He was elected as MLA from this Vidhan Sabha seat in the elections held in 2012. He won by a margin of 29208 votes. Ranjit Singh Chhajjalwaddi of Congress was the trailing candidate.
