Dinanagar (Gurdaspur), February 24: The family of CRPF Constable Maninder Singh Attri (30), who was killed in the Pulwama suicide attack, has urged the state government to name Government Senior Secondary School (Boys), Dinanagar, and the 16-km stretch of road leading from the city police station to Mirthal after the soldier.
Maninder’s cousin Sunil Dutt said he had submitted an application to Deputy Commissioner Vipul Ujwal requesting the CM to provide a police officer’s job of the DSP rank to Lakhveesh Singh, brother of the martyr. At present, Lakhveesh is a CRPF constable in Shillong.
Maninder’s father Satpal Singh Attri said, “The school should be renamed after my son. The idea is to instil a sense of nationalism among students. The Punjab Education Department should follow the footsteps of the Rajasthan Government which has a policy of renaming schools after soldiers martyred in the 1965, 1971 and 1999 wars and those who laid down their lives in proxy wars.”
Cabinet minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said he would take up the matter with higher-ups.
