Almost a year after twin bomb blasts rocked Maur in Bathinda district on January 31, 2017, police have failed to crack the case. The blasts left seven dead and 12 injured.

Perturbed over the police “inaction”, the Maur Bomb Blast Virodhi Sangharsh Committee and family members of victims have decided to hold a protest march at Maur on January 26.

They also resolved to hold “akand paath” “bhog” of which will be held on January 31 to mark the anniversary of the blasts. A candle march will also be held on this day to remember those killed in blasts.

Demanding more compensation to the affected families, general secretary of committee Naveen Singla said the state government had given Rs 50,000 each to the injured whereas the treatment cost was much higher.

The committee also demanded a compensation of Rs 1 crore each to the families of all seven people killed in the incident, besides a government job to at least one member of family. They also sought Rs 10-lakh each to the injured, a memorial in the memory of the victims and to list the affected families as terrorism-hit.

The government has given Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of those killed in the twin blasts.
