Chandigarh, July 5: After Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh announced dope test for all government employees, including Punjab police officials, the Panchayats and Rural Development Minister went a step ahead and announced it for the contesting candidates in the forthcoming panchayat elections in the state.
Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Tript Rajinder Bajwa said he has proposed mandatory dope test for the elections to 13,000 panchayats, zila parishad and panchayat samitis.
The proposal would be put up in the coming Cabinet meeting. The dope test would also cover women candidates.
The minister said it would be right step to take the anti-drug movement to the village level.
