Sangrur, May 29: PWD and IT Minister Vijay Inder Singla on Monday presided over a district-level monitoring committee meeting to analyse the performance of social welfare schemes and pulled up officers for not taking the mandatory steps to implement the schemes. Earlier during the day, he presided over a debt-relief function.
“There are many schemes which the officers concerned are not taking seriously. This is leading to wastage of government money as we are releasing funds, which are not reaching the poor,” said Singla after the meeting.
He along with all senior officers analysed the performance of MGNREGA, Swachh Bharat Mission, Indira Awaas Yojana, pension and other social welfare schemes.
“The CDPO office at Sangrur has failed to improve its functioning despite repeated requests. My private office is working to prepare all records of pensioners, but officers are not taking their job seriously,” said Singla.
The officers were asked to mend their ways before the next meeting. Earlier, during a joint function of Sangrur and Bhawanigarh subdivisions at Ghabdan village, the minister distributed debt-relief certificates to 1,263 farmers worth Rs 7.05 crore. Of the total number, 355 farmers were from Sangrur and 908 from Bhawanigarh. They received Rs 5.49 crore.
“The government will soon come with more farmer-friendly schemes as we understand their problems,” said Singla. At another function, he honoured 46 students, who have performed well in Class X and XII exams.
