Modi government should stop taking farmers’ patience test, should soon repeal black laws: Harpal Singh Cheema

Date:

Chandigarh, March 26, 2021

Reacting to the Bharat Bandh of the farmers, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said that the farmers’ movement is creating history, that is why the Narendra Modi-led central government is nervous. In a statement issued from the party headquarters, senior leader of the AAP and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Punjab Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Modi government should stop taking the patience test of the farmers and accept all the demands of farmers’ organisations immediately. Cheema said that the farmers’ movement has been recorded in golden letters in the history of India. “Not only India, it has become one of the most day-long public movements in the world. The Modi government made every possible undemocratic attempt to crush the movement, but the farmers of the country continued to perform in a peaceful manner,” he added. Cheema further said that despite the dictatorship and cruelty of the Modi government and the BJP government of various states, the way farmers had shown peace and tolerance for so many days was a great example in itself.

“This movement has become a source of inspiration for agitators and social activists around the world,” he added. Cheema said that the Bharat Bandh of the farmers was supported by the people from every section of the country, be it the merchant class, or the laborers, shopkeepers or transporters, all supported the bandh. “Now, this movement is not just about the farmers, now it has become a movement of people from every section of the country,” he added. He said that it was very unfortunate that the ‘annadatas’ of the country had been agitating on the streets against the black farm laws of the Modi government for 120 days and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and all the big leaders of the BJP are busy campaigning for the Bengal elections. “The Modi government has crossed all limits of shamelessness. Modi-Shah is addicted to power. The BJP has become so arrogant about the power that it is harassing the farmers who feed the country. But the public is watching and soon the people of the country will overthrow the Modi government,” he said.

The LoP said that the Aam Aadmi Party workers joined the Bharat Bandh with the farmers. The AAP workers joined the Bharat Bandh as farmers, without any party’s flag and banner and supported the bandh. He said that the Aam Aadmi Party stands with the farmers and was making every effort to strengthen the movement. Cheema said that the Modi government was nervous because of the increasing nature of the farmers’ movement. “The Modi government is unable to understand what to do. We hope that soon the farmers will win and the Modi government will have to bow to the courage of the farmers and accept all their demands,” he added.
