MoU signed between GNDU and Nanak Singh Novelist Memorial Trust

Amritsar, December 14, 2020: The Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) and the Nanak Singh Memorial Trust has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a Nanak Singh Centre within the premises of the Bhai Gurdas University and to institute the annual Nanak Singh Novelist Award and Nanak Singh Memorial Lecture.

Professor Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice Chancellor and S. Kulwant Singh Suri, son of eminent Novelist S. Nanak Singh signed this MoU in the presence of S Kulbir Singh Suri son of Nanak Singh, grandson Mr. Navdeep Singh Suri, IFS (Retd.), Former Ambassador to Egypt & UAE (GNDU Alumni), Prof. S.S. Behl, Dean Academic Affairs, Dr.K. S. Kahlon, Registrar, Prof.Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi, Director Industry Linkage, Jatinder Brar, Prof. Amit Kauts, , Dr. Indu Singh, Prof. Gurinder Singh Suri and Mani Suri were also present on this occasion.

Under this MoU, the Trust will assemble a collection associated with the life and works of Nanak Singh Novelist.

The collection will include audio-visual material, photographs, manuscripts, dissertations, a full set of available books by Nanak Singh, rare editions of certain books, awards and personal items used by Nanak Singh during his lifetime and other relevant material. The Trust will provide this collection to the University at its own cost.

To establish the Centre, the University will provide a suitable location within its library. It will make suitable arrangements to protect, conserve and display the collection and make it accessible to faculty, students and members of the general public.

The University would work with the Trust to set up a digital library dedicated to the works of Nanak Singh. The annual Award and Lecture programme will be organized concurrently by the University at its premises and in partnership with the Trust.

Under this MoU, an annual Award will be given for the best novel in Punjabi language published during the previous calendar year. The annual Lecture would be delivered by an eminent personality on a relevant social issue.
