Move to restart probe into sacrilege by CBI-led SIT disgrace to judiciary: AAP

Chandigarh, September 26: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Punjab, has hit out at both the state and the Centre for handing over the  probe into the 2015 desecration of Guru Granth Sahib at Bargari to the CBI-led Special Investigation Team (SIT) again.

The SIT had filed ‘closure report’ barely three months ago, AAP leaders said, adding the move amounted to denigration of the august House and the judiciary, besides commissioning of yet another sacrilegious act on Guru Granth Sahib by the governments in saddle.

In a joint statement issued from party headquarters on Thursday, Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema and other MLAs said that both the state and the central governments were going the whole hog to protect the Badals and police officials and others associates facing serious allegations into the incidents. The AAP leaders also raised questions of propriety over the investigating agencies changing hands so frequently, apparently to delay the process of justice.

Harpal Singh Cheema said, “the changes in investigations were a clear denigration of the Guru Granth Sahib and the end objective was to derail the process to protect the Badals so that the teeming millions of ‘sangat’ might forget the Kotkapura shooting incident.”

The AAP leaders said the process of filing the closure report by the CBI and restart of the investigation was the brainchild of the Badal  family, which was calling the shots at the behest of the mighty Modi-Amit Shah duo, in league with Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh.

Cheema said when the Vidhan Sabha had decided to withdraw the investigations into the desecration incidents from the CBI, how could  Parbodh Kumar, heading the SIT constituted by the Punjab government, ask the CBI to continue the investigations?

Saying it was design of the Captain and Modi governments to protect Badals by subverting the law and giving clean chit to the Badals proved the allegation, Cheema said. He said the Aam Aadmi Party was set to move a resolution against Prabodh Kumar and the CBI officials for earning disgrace to the august House and denigrating its sanctity.
