Banga, November 23: Giving an unprecedented push to development of the Banga assembly segment, the Punjab Chief Minister Mr Charanjit Singh Channi on Tuesday announced a grant of Rs 132 crore for constituency including a Government college and an integrated sports stadium.
The Chief Minister while addressing a public gathering here today announced these grants aimed at ensuring holistic development of the region. The grants include Rs 15 crore for construction of Government Degree College in village Sarhala Ranua on the name of Chief Architect of Indian constitution Baba Sahib Dr BR Ambedkar. CM Channi envisioned that this degree college will be instrumental in providing affordable quality higher education to students especially from weaker and underprivileged sections.
Likewise, the Chief Minister also announced a grant worth Rs 12 crore for construction of Shaheed-e-Aazam Bhagat Singh Integrated Model Sports stadium at Khatkar Kalan the native village of iconic martyr. He said that state of the art stadium will act as a catalyst to wean away the youth from menace of drugs and channelising their unbounded energy in a positive direction. CM Channi said that this will be a humble tribute to legendary martyr by the state government.
The Chief Minister also announced grant of around Rs. 30 crore for rural development works, Rs 2. 50 crore for various works in Banga city, Rs one crore for constructing fire station at Banga, Rs 10 crore for upgrading CHC Banga to Sub Divisional Hospital, RS 4 crore for upgrading Primary Health Centre Aur to Community Health centre, Rs 32 crore for constructing new link roads in Banga and Aur blocks and Rs 3.5 crore for construction of residence of Sun Divisional Magistrate in Banga. He also announced to waive off Rs 25 crore arrears pending towards members of on fund cooperative societies. CM Channi also announced to give status of sun tehsil to block Aur falling in Banga assembly segment.
Addressing the gathering Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr Hussan Lal lauded the Chief Minister for showering grants for the district from which he hailed. Striking an emotional chord with people, he recalled his days of struggle overcoming which he rose to prominence by clearing coveted civil services exam. Mr Hussan Lal said that state government had already chalked out a blueprint for ensuring holistic development of district especially Banga in the coming days.
Earlier, the Chief Minister paid obeisance at Mazara Dhan Dhan Sri Nabh Kanwal Raja Sahib Ji and Dera Sant Baba Mela Ram in Bharo Majara village.
Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included Cabinet Minister Rana Gurjit Singh, MLAs Mr Angad Singh and Mr Darshan Lal Mangupur, former Punjab Minister and Chairman Punjab Agro Industries Corporation Mr Joginder Singh Mann, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr Hussan Lal, Deputy Commissioner Mr Vishesh Sarangal, Senior Superintendent of Police Ms Kanwardeep Kaur and others.
