Patiala, May 1: The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) in an advisory directed all marriage palace owners that DJs and loud music systems should be installed and played only inside the halls of marriage palaces.

“Marriage palace associations and DJ operators have been apprised about the ill-effects of noise pollution generated by playing loud music in the open,” reads the advisory.

”Life has become hell for people living in villages near marriage palaces. DJs playing loud music at marriages and other functions disturb our sleep,” said a resident of Nabha Road, Patiala, which has over five marriage palaces.
“High volume DJ systems and other musical instruments playing in the open at marriage palaces contribute to the ambient noise pollution causing increase in noise levels beyond the permissible standards,” said Punjab Pollution Control Board chairman Kahan Singh Pannu.

“Therefore, marriage palace owners and DJ operators are hereby advised in public interest to play loud music only inside their halls,” he said.

Sources said the Punjab Pollution Control Board would soon install sound meters at all prominent banquet halls/palaces to check noise pollution levels during marriage functions, processions and other celebrations.
