Will explore pact prospects with Taksalis, BSP: Kejriwal

Date:

Sangrur, January 20: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday evening discussed the issue of alliance with the SAD (Taksali) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal has asked senior party leaders to explore the possibilities.

“Kejriwal did not discuss the issue of alliance in the core committee meeting. He did so later with some senior leaders and asked us to work on it. We want to  defeat the Congress and the SAD-BJP to save Punjab,” said Harpal Singh Cheema, Leader of Opposition (LoP).

All 23 members,  including Cheema, MP Bhagwant Mann, Manish Sisodia, MLAs Aman Arora, Baljinder Kaur, Rupinder Ruby and others were present in the core committee meeting. Kejriwal thanked all leaders for making required arrangements for a   rally in Barnala.

“During the meeting,  Kejriwal asked party leaders to send the names of proposed candidates for the remaining eight seats to the political affairs committee for further action,” said LoP Cheema.

Before the meeting, Kejriwal said his apology to SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia would not have any impact on the party’s  performance in the forthcoming MP elections.

“The state’s residents have got strong evidence that Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh has been working to save SAD leaders. People of Punjab are with us as they know that only AAP can save the state. We will win more seats than we won the last time,” said Kejriwal.

When questioned on rebel leader Sukhpal Khaira’s allegation that he worked like a dictator, Kejriwal said, “Let Khaira say  whatever he wants to because he has lost his ground in Punjab. My best wishes to him for his new political party.”

Kejriwal accused the state CM of forgetting all poll promises made to the people of Punjab before the elections. “We will soon appoint the party’s state president,” he said.
