PEDA celebrated State Level Energy Conservation Day in association with PSPCL

Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), being the State Designated Agency (SDA) for implementation of the Energy Conservation Act-2001 in the State celebrated State Level Energy Conservation Day in association with Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) today.

While inaugurating the exhibition on energy efficiency technologies and energy conservation day function, Sh. D.P.S Grewal, Director Distribution, PSPCL spoke about the pioneering work being done by the State in various sectors i.e., Buildings, Industries, Municipalities, Agriculture, DISCOM, Transport etc. on the theme of Energy Conservation & Energy Efficiency in the State of Punjab. He appreciated PEDA for achieving 1st Prize in State Performance Award conferred by Govt. of India on December 14.

Sh. Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa, Chief Executive Officer, PEDA emphasized upon the need of energy conservation and energy efficiency in the state to meet the gap between the demand and supply of power. He stressed to adopt renewable energy sources and use power judiciously adopting energy conservation & energy efficiency measures. Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Govt. of India has launched various new initiatives i.e., ‘Shunya’ labeling programme for promoting Net Zero Energy Buildings, Standard & Labelling Programme for Tyres, Standard and Labelling Programme for High-Energy Lithium-Ion Traction Battery Packs and Systems and Cloud-Based Data Analytical Tool for SMEs which will also be implemented in the State of Punjab.

Sh. M.P. Singh, Director, PEDA highlighted the initiatives taken under energy conservation programme in the state. He informed the audience about the importance of energy conservation and clean energy in various areas. He also mentioned that Punjab is pioneering in implementing ECBC, more than 80 capacity building programs conducted, leading State in incentivizing ECBC & Green Buildings, Punjab is amongst the top performing States in DISCOM driven DSM programmes for agriculture and non-agriculture sectors. He also highlighted the energy saved by implementing the demonstration projects wherein 998000 MWh energy saved in year 2019-20 as per Report on Impact of Energy Conservation Activities in the State. 2.16 Lakhs energy efficient BEE 4 star rated agriculture pumpsets installed in State.

Chief Executive Officer, Director, Officers, Engineers of PSPCL & PEDA Energy Conservation Divisions were present during celebration of State Level Energy Conservation Day 2021 at Thapar University, Patiala.
