Ferozepur, June 26: The Rs 200-crore PGI Satellite Centre project, which was announced in 2013, has become a bone of contention between the Congress and BJP.

Hundreds of Youth Congress workers on Tuesday held a protest outside the residence of former state BJP chief Kamal Sharma accusing him of trying to sabotage the project.

Speaking on the occasion, Sukhwinder Singh Atari, district president of the Youth Congress, said Kamal Sharma was not allowing the project to be shifted to the outskirts of the town due to which it was getting delayed. Attari said the SAD-BJP regime could not provide adequate land for the centre and now when the state government was ready to provide requisite land, BJP leaders were creating hurdles in it.

Congress MLA Parminder Singh Pinki, who played a vital role in getting the project approved from the Central government during the UPA regime, said he had taken up the matter with Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to expedite the project, but the BJP leaders were not allowing the Health Ministry to give it a final nod.

Kamal Sharma, meanwhile denied the allegations, reiterating that the previous government had already transferred the land for the centre, however the present government wanted to shift it to another site which was not in public interest.
