The PIL sought the issuance of appropriate directions to Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to shift Rana Gurjit Singh from the ministry alleging that Rana Gurjit Singh and his wife Rana Rajbans Kaur were majority share holders in Rana Sugars Ltd which had an agreement dated December 4, 2012 with the PSPCL to supply power.

The agreement will continue up to December 4, 2027. Advocate Arora maintained that Rana Gurjit Singh, as Power Minister, had full control over the PSPCL. He alleged that the minister made a statement that he was going to review power agreements with private power generating companies. Thus, a situation of “conflict of interest” had arisen. Advocate General Atul Nanda stated that there was no situation of conflict of interest, as the PSPCL was under the electricity regulatory authority.
