Amritsar, March 12: Police on Thursday confiscated 10 kg of heroin and arrested a drug peddler from the outskirts of Kakkar village in Amristar.
The accused, identified as Davinder Singh, a resident of Manawala, was travelling in an XUV 500 when he was intercepted following a tip-off.
The case falls under the Lopoke police station.
The seizure, which included two mobile phones, was made from across the border fence following Singh’s interrogation.
Police officials said that even though there was no previous record against Singh, he along with several other accomplices were involved in cross-border drug peddling.
Singh allegedly used to hire peasants or farm labourers who would cross the barbed fence to peddle drugs. They used to sneak in the drug consignments by concealing them in the tractors, a police official said.
Police said more arrests were likely to be made as officials are probing Singh’s national and international links.
