Post civic polls win, it’s time to deliver: Navjot Singh Sidhu

Date:

Jalandhar, December 20: Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu today admitted that his government’s honeymoon period in the state was over.

He said: “After the MC polls, we now have our councillors. We cannot make excuses now. This is time that we fix responsibility on our shoulders. After six months, if someone says development is not taking place, I will accept it.

”Terming communalism as the biggest threat to the country, he alleged that it was unfortunate that BJP leaders had denigrated the office of the Prime Minister in the Gujarat polls.

He said levelling of false allegations of conspiring with Pakistan against former PM Dr Manmohan Singh was uncalled for.

At a press conference here, Sidhu said: “The spirit of Constitution should not be transgressed. The Congress will never attempt to polarise votes on the basis of caste or creed. Jodan wale nu maan milde te todan wale nu apmaan (Those who unite people get honoured while those who divide face disgrace).

”He added that despite the fact that the Congress had lost the Gujarat polls, party president Rahul Gandhi was still the winner and would get the glory. “As an individual, Rahul’s stature has got elevated like a colossus after ascendency of the Congress in the state,” he said.
