Punjab Social Justice & Empowerment, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur while assuming the charge of her office in Civil Secretariat, underlined the requirement for better implementation of laws pertaining to women safety.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Baljit Kaur said that Post Matric Scholarship and Shagun Scheme will be implemented till 31st March as the beneficiaries direly need the same. Asserting her priorities, she said that education is the key to strengthen the girls and she will be committed towards the cause. Talking about the poll promise of monetary help to women, the Cabinet Minister said that the State Government will implement its every poll promise in letter and spirit.
Talking about the lacunas to execute the laws regarding women safety, Dr. Kaur, who also has a flair for writing on social issues in journals and penning poetry, said that the laws are there but the problem is the implementation. She said that she will try her best to plug every loophole in these laws. She added that she was trying hard to chalk out the plan to further strengthen girl education. She also asked to fortify the One Stop Sakhi Centres in every district to provide shelter and other facilities to women facing violence.
It may be pointed out that Dr. Baljit Kaur is an eye surgeon and got elected from Malout Assembly Constituency in the recently held Punjab Legislative Assembly election. She was working as an eye surgeon in the government run Muktsar Civil Hospital. The 46-year-old Ophthalmologist took premature retirement to contest her maiden election.
A trained ophthalmologist, Dr. Baljit Kaur is the daughter of Prof. Sadhu Singh, who was the AAP MP from Faridkot from 2014 to 2019. During her posting in Muktsar district, Dr. Baljit Kaur became a recognised face for her work.
