Ropar, November 15: Protesting against the regularisation policy regarding 8,886 teachers of Adarsh schools, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), members of the Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha gheraoed the house of Speaker Rana KP Singh here on Wednesday.
The protesting teachers reached near the house of the Speaker around 6 pm, where police had already put barricades to stop them. The teachers, however, insisted upon moving further on which a scuffle between police and the protesters ensued and enraged teachers threw the barricades aside.
The police resorted to a mild lathichrge to disperse them. Soon the situation was controlled by police officials and the teachers were allowed to stage a dharna near the Speaker’s residence.
Addressing the protesting teachers, morcha leaders, including Gurvinder Singh Saskaur, Gurpreet Heera and Dharminder Bhangu, said the government had fudged the figures claiming that the teachers had accepted the new policy.
