Abohar, November 11: The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has given great relief to thousands of students of government and private schools in the Abohar sub-division. Finding that 60 per cent of the government-run schools in Fazilka district and about 200 private schools were functioning in this sub-division, the PSEB has withdrawn the orders to shift its regional book depot from Abohar to Fazilka.

However, the PSEB office that functioned in a private rented building in the Gobind Nagari locality near the national highway for the past few years was on Friday shifted to Government Senior Secondary School near the Nehru Park here.
District Youth Congress ex-president Sandeep Jakhar performed the opening ceremony.

He said the PSEB had decided to rectify all errors related to name, date of birth, etc. in certificates issued from 1970 to till date. “This will bring great relief among people. The PSEB has decided that the corrections will be made in the certificates with presentation of required documents. Now students can apply for corrections in their certificates in the district offices of the board.

Now a student will have to pay Rs 500 per year from the year of passing examination and Rs 1,000 per error to the board for rectification of the error,” he added. “There is no need to make rounds of the board’s head office in Mohali as the work will be done in the district offices of the board. In addition, the receipt number, diary number, case status and the date of sending the certificate from the board and the registrar number will also be sent on mobile,” he said.
Dozens of educationists had approached PPCC president and Gurdaspur MP Sunil Jakhar to get the shifting orders of the PSEB regional depot cancelled.
