PSPCL to recover Rs117 cr from government departments in Muktsar, Fazilka

Muktsar, August 28: The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has to realise power bills worth over Rs 117 crore from government departments in its Muktsar circle alone, which includes Muktsar, Malout, Gidderbaha, Badal, Abohar ad Fazilka divisions.

Data procured from the PSPCL’s circle office showed that the Water Supply and Sanitation Department was the biggest defaulter with an outstanding amount of Rs 65.14 crore. Local Bodies Department is yet to pay bills amounting to Rs 33.06 crore, Irrigation Department is yet to pay Rs 8.6 crore, Rural Development Department Rs 4.24 crore, Health Department Rs 1.86 crore and the Legal and Legislative Affairs Department is yet to pay Rs 1.17 crore.

Perusal of the records revealed that the maximum amount of Rs 34.35 crore was to be recovered in Abohar division, Rs 23.57 crore in Malout division, Rs 17.67 crore in Muktsar division, Rs 16.49 crore in Gidderbaha division, Rs 13.97 crore in Badal division and Rs 11.11 crore in Fazilka division.

Bhushan Kumar Jindal, Superintending Engineer, PSPCL, Muktsar Circle, said, “We have written to the Deputy Commissioner, heads of various departments in these districts and their higher-ups. The outstanding amount has decreased as compared to dues in the past, but still it is a huge amount and we are soon going to launch a crackdown against defaulters and power pilferers.”
