Punjab defeated Uttar Pradesh (UP) by six wickets to win the final of Vijay Merchant U-16 Trophy at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.Batting first, UP posted a total of 160 runs with the help of Ansh Yadav (65) and Suryakant Chauhan (30).
Yuvraj Choudhary claimed four wickets while Jashan Pannu, Anurag Watts, Anshul Negi and Kritik Gosain claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Punjab scored 189 runs to gain the first innings’ lead of 29 runs. Jaskaranvir Singh Paul (84) was the top scorer for the team.
For UP, Aaqib Khan bagged six wickets. In the second innings, UP were bundled out for 140 runs. Skipper Sameer Rizvi scored 80 runs while Ansh Yadav scored 45 runs.Watts (4/25) wrecked UP with a four-wicket haul.
He was ably supported by Pannu (3/22) and Choudhary (2/37).Punjab reached home 112/4 in 48.4 overs with Choudhary (50) and Negi (17) remaining unbeaten. Suryakant Chauhan (2/25) was the most successful bowler for the UP side. Aaqib Khan (1/39) and Damandeep Singh (1/27) were the other wicket-takers.
