Chandigarh, October 1: To reach out every nook and corner of Punjab for the ensuing Assembly Elections in the early 2022, the office of Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab today organised a workshop for Radio Jockeys (RJs). It was organized to familiarize the Radio Jockeys with the election process so that they can help in wide and accurate dissemination of information to their listeners.
The leading radio channels like All India Radio and various private FM channels participated in the workshop Radio announcers of Al India Radio and Radio jockeys from major FM channels of the Tricity including My FM, Big FM, Red FM and Radio Mirchi attended the three hours interactive session.
Ms. Madhvi Kataria, IAS, Additional CEO, Punjab provided information to the participants about various initiatives of voters’ education taken by the Election Commission of India (ECI) with special focus on technology, raising awareness about EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) and initiatives taken ahead of ensuing Assembly Election in Punjab.
Interacting with Radio Jockeys, Ms. Kataria said that radio is one of the most important medium to connect the voters with election machinery to create continuous electoral and democratic education. The participants gave their assurance to take forward their association with O/o CEO Punjab on voter awareness in an organic manner.
A part of the engagement taken up by the O/o CEO Punjab with major stakeholders, it facilitated deliberation on collaborative role Radio can play in disseminating voter awareness. Consensus was reached on how radio stations can play participatory role in voter education in an effective & engaging manner. Senior officials of All India Radio, Jalandhar gave assurance of conducting interviews and phone-in programs, which would be relayed from other stations. RJs of private FM channels gave assurance of promoting Systematic Voters Educations and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiatives like quizzes, other competitions and promoting social media channels of O/o CEO Punjab through their platforms.
The workshop saw interactive and enthusiastic participation of the representatives from the Radio channels. Sh. Sanjiv Dosanjh, Assistant Director (Programs), All India Radio, Chandigarh facilitated an impromptu session of RJ mentions with Radio Jockeys recording voter awareness messages in their unique, engaging manner.
