With a view to boost the industrial and medical education sectors in the State, the Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Tuesday laid the foundation stones of a Punjab Cement Plant ( subsidiary of Shree Cement Limited) at village Deh Kalan and a medical college at village Ghabdan with the combined cost of Rs. 1050 crore.
Welcoming the Shree Cement Limited into Punjab, the Chief Minister in his address at Village Deh Kalan said that this project would come up at an estimated cost of Rs. 700 crore having capacity of 5 Million Ton Per Annum along with Captive Railway Siding. “The project would ensure direct and indirect employment to thousands of youth and other business opportunities in the Transport & other allied sectors”, said Channi.
Going into details, Channi pointed out that the requirement of land area is approximately 104 Acres (Including Railway siding) has already been procured. The Power requirement would be 32 MW, added the Chief Minister.
Likewise, the environment clearance has also been given with regard to the project, which would be a reality in the next 15 months. “The State Government gave 40 lac per acre as compensation for this project”, added the Chief Minister.
Coming to the proposed government medical college, the Chief Minister while addressing the people at village Ghabdan said that the project would come to fruition at a cost of Rs. 350 crore and would not only provide the best possible healthcare facilities to the people at their doorsteps but also the top quality medical education to those having a penchant for taking up medical studies as a career.
The Chief Minister also lauded the gesture of Gaushala Management for donating 10 acres of land for the medical college and revealed that the gaushala would get Rs. 10 lakh annually in lieu of this for five years.
Calling it just a trailer, Channi assured that more such big projects would be announced in the coming days thus effectively showcasing the efficacy of the Punjab Model.
The Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal on the occasion said that every development work in the state is carried out by Congress be it the PGI, Bhakra Dam or Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana and history stands testimony to that terming this project as the biggest investment in the area, by Shree Cement, the Cabinet Minister Vijay Inder Singla said that the project would lead to a spate of employment avenues for the youth of the area.
Appreciating the business friendly atmosphere in the State, the MD Shree Cements, H.M. Bangur said that of all the 12 states, his company got fastest approvals in Punjab without any hindrance. He also said that the project would be completed in 15 months time span.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister was also honoured by Brickiln association for pro-industry decisions besides by the Shree Cements.
