Punjab CM raises farmers’ issues with Union Agriculture Minister

New Delhi, October 3: Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday met Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh and raised a slew of agrarian issues.

After the meeting, Radha Mohan said the land provided by the Punjab Government for setting up a National Post Graduate Horticulture Institute near Amritsar has been approved. Foundation stone for it will be laid this year, he informed.

Capt Amarinder said that during the meeting he demanded assistance for proper disposal of paddy stocks and stubble in the field. He said he demanded Rs 100 per quintal.He said the minister has assured him to look into the matter.When asked about Haryana Police claims that Honeypreet Insan, an associate of jailed head of Dera Sachha Sauda Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, had been given patronage by the Punjab Police allowing her to dodge her arrest, he shot back saying, “What non sense”.

“What has Punjab Police got to do with her,” he said.He denied that Punjab Police arrested her. She was arrested by Haryana Police at Zirakpur, he said.In response to a question, he said the SGPC should come forward and help the probe being conducted by the commission instituted by the state government regarding desecration of scriptures and books relating to different religions.
