Punjab DCs directed to complete land acquisition process ‘immediately’ for expressways

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will award Rs. 9.30 Crore to the 23 sportspersons of Punjab who represented the country in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games at Birmingham.

The Chief Minister will felicitate all the players from Punjab who won medals and participated in the felicitation ceremony to be held at Chandigarh on August 27. It was disclosed by Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer in a press communiqué released here today.

Meet Hayer said that continuous efforts are being made by the Chief Minister to make Punjab the leading state of the country in sports and it is as part of this strategy that the sportsmen of the state are being honored with cash prizes. Apart from this, on 29th August, the grand event of sports ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Deya-2022’ is starting in Punjab. The Silver medalist of Birmingham Commonwealth Games-2022 will be awarded Rs. 50 lakh, the Bronze medalist will be awarded Rs. 40 lakh and the participating sportsperson will be awarded Rs. 5 lakh.

The sports minister said that 23 players from Punjab participated in Birmingham, out of which 19 players won three silver and four bronze medals. Weightlifter Vikas Thakur, Men’s Hockey Players Manpreet Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Akashdeep Singh, Mandeep Singh, Gurjant Singh, Hardik Singh, Varun Kumar, Krishan Pathak, Shamsher Singh, Jarmanjit Singh and Jugraj Singh, Women Cricketers Harmanpreet Kaur, Harleen Deol and Tania Bhatia won Silver Medal while Weightlifters Harjinder Kaur, Lovepreet Singh and Gurdeep Singh and Women hockey player Gurjit Kaur won Bronze Medals. Apart from this, Jasleen Saini participated in Judo, Navjit Kaur Dhillon in Athletics and Naman Kapil and Vishwajit Singh in Cycling.
