New Delhi, April 13: Celebrity Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Thursday found no support by his own government as it stood for confirmation of his conviction in the road rage case in which an old man had died about 30 years ago.

The state government urged the Supreme Court to uphold Sidhu’s conviction in the case dating back to December 27, 1988 maintaining he should serve three years in jail as ordered by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Sidhu had allegedly hit Gurnam Singh (65) in Patiala who had later died in the hospital. He had maintained that the person had died of heart attack.

“There is no evidence that the person in the road rage died because of a heart attack,” said the state government in which Sidhu holds the portfolio of Local Government, Culture and Tourism

Sidhu was granted bail by the SC in 2007 as he had challenged his conviction by the HC.
