Punjab Govt focusing on education & employment to stop brain drain: Bram Shanker Jimpa

In a bid to stop brain drain, Punjab Government is entirely concentrating on imparting quality education, providing better healthcare facilities and creating more opportunities for the youth in the state so that they won’t need to look other countries for education and jobs, said Punjab Revenue, Rehabilitation & Disaster Management and Water Resources Minister Mr. Bram Shanker Jimpa here on Saturday. He was addressing a seminar on “Human Trafficking – Challenges and Cure” organised by the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association in association with the Cross Horizon NGO, at Chandigarh Judicial Academy here.

Recalling Malta tragedy and other incidents, the Cabinet Minister expressed grave concern over human trafficking in a garb of sending the youth to their dream land. He said that strict action will be taken against unscrupulous travel agents who are found to be involved in this illegal practice.

He further said that the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Mann led Punjab Government is committed to create new opportunities so that youngsters don’t have to go to foreign countries in pursuit of their dreams. The state will create an industrial friendly environment, besides syncing education with employment opportunities.

“We will establish such a system in the state that the youngsters will look forward to returning to Punjab to contribute to the development of the state,” he added.

While seeking suggestions from the audience to stop the exploitation of gullible people, the minister said that he will discuss it at a higher level to address all their problems. He also urged youth, who are planning to settle abroad, and their parents, to always choose a legal method to go abroad.

Doaba is one of the most progressive regions of the state as a lot of families of this region have been settled abroad way back but this region also suffered a lot due to choosing illegal ways to reach foreign countries.

Advocate General of Punjab Dr. Anmol Rattan Sidhu referred to the various steps which are being undertaken by the Punjab Government in an endeavour to keep a check on the problem. He also enlisted the causes which accentuate this problem and possible solutions. People turned up in huge numbers to ponder upon this issue and listen to the dignitaries. The dignitaries gave their detailed insight on the topic and the various instances as to how the problem has also evolved with time.

Joint Director of the Rajya Sabha Dr. Anuj, President of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association Dr. Santokhwinder Singh Grewal, Director of the Educational Multimedia Research Centre Mr. Daljit Ami and Director of Sahaita NGO and emminent eye surgeon Dr. Rajinder Raji also addressed the seminar. The convenors for the seminar were Mr. Anil Kumar Sagar, Advocate, Punjab and Haryana High Court and President of Cross Horizon, along with Mr. Anandeshwar Gautam, Advocate, Supreme Court of India.
