Chandigarh/Mohali, December, 6: There is a big shortage of skilled manpower across the globe and Punjab has the potential to meet this shortage by providing quality demand driven skilled manpower to the global Industry as per their needs.
The Technical Education & Employment Generation Minister Punjab Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi said this while addressing a gathering in the special session on ‘Mera Hunar Meri Shan’ during the Progressive Punjab Investors Summit here today at ISB Campus.
The Minister said Punjab is rapidly moving forward to become the skill capital of the global Industry as the Punjab government has taken lead in this sector by revising the syllabus of the vocational and polytechnic courses as per the present and futuristic technological requirements of the Industry. Besides this, Punjab has also set up a system to provide skill training to the Youth with the involvement of Industry as per their need and demand.
The minister on the occasion invited industrial houses to set up skill centres and centres of Excellence inside their industrial units in the State to provide demand driven skill training. He said that with this collaboration the Industry would get quality skilled manpower and the training fee of the students would be paid by the Government.
The Minister also shared an important information that the international players would set up Skill centres in the state to provide skill training to the youth as per needs of the Global Industry. He said that in this joint venture, the foreign players would be the training facilitators and Punjab government would provide infrastructure. This project would be launched in the year 2020 and the Punjab Government had already signed an agreement in this regard with Canadian states and UK.
Panelists who participated in the session included Mr. Manish Kumar CEO, NSDC, Ms. Satinder Satti CEO The-Shelters, Ms. Monika CEO Beauty & Wellness, Sector Skill Council, Mr. Jaideep CEO Vidyanta Skill, Mr. Sandeep Kaura Advisor Skill Mission Punjab and Mr. JD Giri Director Shahi Exports Private limted. The panellists aired their views on the role of Role of National Skill Development Council, upliftment of Skilling in Media Sector, role of skilling in empowerment of women, skilling youth for overseas employment opportunities and skilling of female youth for apparel Industry.
On the occasion document of expression of interest was also exchanged between the Punjab Skill Development Mission and Shoolini University, Himachal Pardesh to establish an international research university in the State of Punjab. The proposed university would have partnerships with leading global universities and offer world class education and research in the areas of food technology, biotechnology, pharmaceutical sciences, and other related areas. The Shoolini University has proposed to launch its programs by 2021.
