CHANDIGARH, DECEMBER 30: Punjab Police has dismissed an ASI, Surinder Kumar, from service for allegedly attempting to rape a minor 10 year girl in Mahavir Nagar area of Batala on Saturday afternoon.
Disclosing this, a spokesperson of the Police Department said the ASI was arrested after the victim’s grandmother filed an FIR u/s 376, 354, 509, 511 IPC, 10 POCSO Act at PS Civil Lines, Batala, on Sunday. Subsequently, DGP, Dinkar Gupta, ordered the dismissal of the ASI, who was posted in Police Station Sadar, Batala, under Article 311 (2) (b) of the Constitution of India. The DGP also ordered the Batala police to expedite the investigations for early filing of the charge sheet against the accused.
According to the complaint filed by the victim’s family, on the fateful day the girl had left her house in Mahavir Nagar, Dera Baba Nanak Road, Batala, around 1.00 pm to buy some household stuff. The accused ASI, a neighbour of the victim, who was drunk, forcibly took her home and attempted to rape her.
In her complaint, the victim’s grandmother has stated that barely 5 mins after the little girl had left home, she heard her cries. She stated that when she rushed out, she heard her granddaughter crying at accused ASI Surinder Kumar’s house.
She alleged that when she reached there, she saw the accused holding the arms of her grand-daughter. However, after seeing her, he let the girl go.
The victim later told her grandmother that the accused had dragged her to his house by saying that his (ASI) daughter was calling her. The accused ASI was alone in his house at the time of incident and was in a drunken condition.
On getting information about the incident, a police party led by DSP City Batala reached the spot and arrested the suspect.
