Punjab police foils terrorist attack on Diwali eve; tiffin bomb recovered, three held

CHANDIGARH, November 4:

Thwarting another possible Terrorist Attack in the border state, Punjab Police on the eve of Diwali have recovered another Tiffin Bomb kept concealed in agriculture fields at village Ali Ke situated near Indo-Pak Border in the district Ferozepur.

Sharing details, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota said that the Ludhiana Rural Police on Monday had arrested two persons for providing shelter and logistical support to the accused— identified as Ranjeet Singh alias Gora, in Jalalabad blast case, which is being investigated by NIA.

Those arrested have been identified as Jaswant Singh alias Shinda Baba, a resident of village Jhugge Nihanga Wale in Ferozepur and Balwant Singh of village Walipur Khurd in Ludhiana, he said. Further, Ranjeet Singh alias Gora has also been arrested.

Notably, Balwinder Singh alias Bindu of village Jhugge Nihanga Wale died in a motorcycle blast in Jalalabad town at around 8 pm on September 15, 2021. He had a criminal background. Already three accused persons have been arrested in the Jalalabad blast case and 1 Tiffin Bomb, 2 pen drives and Rs 1 lakh 15 thousand cash was recovered from them.

The DGP said that during the course of investigation of this case, it came to light that the accused were in possession of one Tiffin bomb, which they had kept concealed in agriculture fields. “Following revelations of the accused persons, a joint search operation was carried out by teams of Counter Intelligence Ferozepur and Ludhiana and CIA Jagraon at village Ali Ke in Ferozepur on Wednesday and recovered the tiffin bomb,” he said.

ADGP Internal Security RN Dhoke said that further investigation in the case is on and more arrests are expected to be made soon. Earlier also, recoveries of tiffin bombs have been made in Amritsar Rural, Kapurthala, Fazilka and Tarn Taran in the past few months.

Meanwhile, FIR No 181 dated November 1, 2021 had been registered under sections 212 and 216 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 18 and 19 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) Act at Police Station Sidhwan bet in Ludhiana Rural.
