Punjab Water Supply & Sanitation dept. bags award for potable water supply in rural area of Amritsar

Giving recognition to the concerted efforts of Punjab Water Supply and Sanitation Department in providing potable water in rural areas of the state, the SKOCH group, India’s leading think tank dealing with socio-economic issues with a focus on inclusive growth since 1997, would confer the award on the Department for providing clean water supply in rural areas of Amritsar district.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the department said that the Punjab government was making all-out efforts to further improve the water supply and sanitation in the state. The Water Supply and Sanitation Department had initiated a special drive to resolve water supply problems in the rural areas of Amritsar district. Under the drive, Arsenic treatment plants have been set up in 66 villages of the district at a cost of Rs. 18.53 crore and arsenic treatment plants and domestic arsenic treatment units are also being set up in other 218 villages at a cost of Rs.37.85 crore.

Apart from this, 4 major schemes of canal based water were also being executed in Amritsar district at a cost of Rs. 379 crore. With the commissioning of all these schemes around 12 lakh people of 359 villages of the district would get clean drinking water, said the spokesperson.

Ms. Razia Sultana led Water Supply and Sanitation department was fully committed to provide potable water supply and toilet facility in every household in the rural areas of Punjab, said the spokesperson, while adding that Water Supply and Sanitation department would be felicitated with the ‘SKOCH Order of Merit Award’ by the reputed SKOCH organization in New Delhi. The award will be conferred on January 16, 2021 in a virtual ceremony. The department would intensify the efforts to further improve the public health system in future, he added.

Congratulating the team comprising SE Mr. JS Chahal, EE Mr. Puneet Bhasin and EE Charandeep Singh for large scale initiatives in resolving drinking water supply issues in the district, Ms. Razia Sultana said that with their tireless efforts the department has been able to secure the “SKOCH Order of Merit Award”.
