Students of the Punjabi department had written a letter to vice-chancellor Arun K Grover on October 11, asking him to bring back Punjabi on the signboards here. They had held a symbolic protest on October 17 outside the V-C office, teaching Punjabi to the participants.

Jashan Kamboj, president, PUCSC, said, “Punjabi is our mother tongue and we believe in the issue raised by the students of the Punjabi department students. We want that signboards should have all the three languages.”

When asked if they have joined the protest organised by the students, he said, “We haven’t as such joined the protest but we support the issue.”

The students of the Punjabi department staged a silent protest outside the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) on Tuesday. Other students protested at different parts of the city to raise awareness for the cause.

Members of Students for Society (SFS) also joined the students of the Punjabi department on the issue. They, along with the other students, silently interacted with residents, displaying placards in Punjabi.

SFS spokesperson said that a meeting was held on Tuesday morning at the Student Centre to create awareness among students on the issue. Members of SFS interacted with students to tell them about the importance of the language.
