New Delhi, Sep 21: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said those questioning the government’s move to deport Rohingya citing international law and human rights are wrong. India is not a signatory to the United Nations’ Convention on Refugees. Addressing a seminar on good governance, development and human rights organised by the National Human Rights Commission, Singh said it is wrong to oppose the deportation move on the grounds that they had refugee rights.

“Refugee status is bestowed upon after following certain process and procedure which have not been followed in their case.”He said the government had no application regarding it. “They also do not have political asylum. Also, the issue is related to national security.”

He said those talking about the rights of Rohingya must also understand the rights of Indians. Bangladesh is also affected by the Rohingya refugees, he added.

He said the Myanmar government had expressed willingness to take back the Rohingya. He said if this is the case, why voices were being raised against their deportation.
