Chandigarh, January 9: Leader of the Opposition Sukhpal Khaira on Monday sent a 10-point “chargesheet” against Irrigation Minister Rana Gurjit Singh to Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, seeking a CBI inquiry against the minister to unearth his alleged involvement in the sand mining “scandal”.
“Rana Gurjit’s dismissal (from the Cabinet) is demanded so that he does not misuse his office to further influence investigations, the way he influenced the Justice JS Narang (retd) Commission’s proceedings,” Khaira said.
The AAP leader claimed that three weeks before Justice Narang was appointed head of a Judicial Commission to probe the allegations against Rana Gurjit in the sand mining row, his son, AS Narang, appeared in a court as the counsel for the minister’s nephew.
Khaira released a record of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, as per which a case under Sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of the IPC was registered against Rana Gurjit’s nephew Rana Prabhdeep Singh at Mullanpur police station in Mohali district. AS Narang appeared as the counsel for Rana Prabhdeep to seek regular bail in a Mohali court on May 3, 2017. Capt Amarinder named Justice Narang as the commission head on May 29.
In the “chargesheet”, Khaira alleged that the appointment of Justice Narang raised eyebrows as the latter’s son had been the counsel for Rana Gurjit’s family in a recent court case.
