Chandigarh, June 19: The SAD-BJP alliance will present a paper to counter the White paper being brought out by the Congress in the ongoing Budget session. The alliance will oppose the Congress claims that the previous government did not deliver and left the state under huge debt.
The paper is being prepared under the supervision of SAD president Sukhbir Badal and former Finance Minister Parminder Dhindsa. A source close to Sukhbir said: “We are aware of the fact that the Congress will present a ‘white paper’ to downplay the works done by us. We will not allow them to tell blatant lies.”
“We have scanned papers pertaining to all major projects completed during the last 10 years. Can anyone deny the enviable road infrastructure that has come up in the state? Can anyone deny the over bridges built to ease traffic flow? There was also a considerable improvement in the sewerage and water infrastructure in the state,” he said.
An Akali MLA said: “From being a power-starved state, our government ensured 24-hour supply to all categories of consumers.” Detailed figures on the government action and success to curb the drug mafia were also being compiled.
The SAD and the BJP will have a special meeting tomorrow to chalk out a strategy for a collective stand on the proposed Budget. Sukbhir and former Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia, who missed the first three days of the session, will be present for the remaining days, official sources said.
Former CM Parkash Singh Badal has already excused himself from the entire session.
The SAD is likely to question Finance Minister Manpreet Badal on loan waiver for farmers in the state Budget. “As part of our government earlier, he had opposed free power to the farmers. How can he have contradictory views?” a former minister said.
