New Delhi, October 9
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Saturday demanded the dismissal and arrest of Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra and arrest of his son Ashish Mishra.
Unless the minister resigned, UP Police would not take action against the “culprits”, said SKM leader Yogendra Yadav, announcing their further course of action.
The SKM also decided to burn the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and any “local leader” on Dusshera.
“Some of the members wanted to burn the effigy of Manohar Lal Khattar, some of Yogi Adityanath, so we decided that the third effigy could be of any local leader,” Yadav said.
The five-point plan includes an ‘antim ardas’ and ‘bhog ceremony’ on October 12 for the farmers killed at Tikona, Lakhimpur Kheri, and a farmers’ mahapanchayat in Lucknow on October 26.
The SKM also announced a Rail Roko on October 18 and asked all supporters to either come to Lakhimpur Kheri for the ‘antim ardas’ or remember those who had died at their local gurudwara, temple, mosque or church or the protest site.
“If this is not possible, people can light five candles in memory of those killed in Lakhimpur Kheri on October 12 — four farmers and a journalist,” said Yadav.
He said said while the programme of ‘antim ardas’ at Tikona is final, the rest of the plans depended on whether the government agreed to their three key demands.
The three key demands are dismissal and arrest of Ajay Mishra and arrest of his son Ashish Mishra.
“If our demands are not met we will announce the remaining four parts of the plan, which include a rail roko on October 18,” Yadav and other SKM leaders said.
Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his “silence” on the incident.
The SKM leaders said the Lakhimpur Kheri incident had “completely exposed the character of the Union Government, the Uttar Pradesh government, and the.BJP which is in power at both places”.
They said, “It is clear that the BJP has now turned to violence after losing ground in the face of the farm movement. The SKM has decided that it will respond to this violence through a peaceful and democratic mass movement.”
“A nationwide campaign will be launched against this massacre and the non-satisfactory action by the government,” they said.
5-point campaign
1. ‘Antim ardas’ on October 12 at Tikona, Lakhimpur Kheri.
2. After the ‘antim ardas’, Shaheed Kisan Yatra from Lakhimpur Kheri by taking the ‘asthis’ of martyred farmers.
3. On Dussehra on October 15, the effigies of “anti-farmer BJP government” symbolised by Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and local leaders will be burnt.
4. Rail Roko across the country on October 18 from 10 am to 4 pm.
5. Mahapanchayat in Lucknow to protest against the Lakhimpur incident.
