Chandigarh, December 29: The SDM (Dasuya), a BDPO and a naib tehsildar were on Saturday taken off poll duty for their role in making questionable votes.

Some fake names, including those of NRIs, were found to have been registered as voters.

The action has been taken by the State Election Commission.

For the panchayat elections scheduled for Sunday, serious departmental action has been recommended.

Those taken off duty are SDM Harcharan Singh, BDPO Paramjit Singh and naib tehsildar Manjit Singh.

Strict action has been recommended against the patwari, kanungo and tehsildar concerned.

The action was initiated on a complaint filed by MLA Sangat Singh Gilzian. The inquiry was conducted by ADC (D) Hoshiarpur.

An immediate transfer of all those named in the report has been sought.
