3-day annual Shaheedi Jor Mela concludes with nagar kirtan

Fatehgarh Sahib, December 28: The three-day annual Shaheedi Jor Mela, held in the memory of Guru Gobind Singh’s sons, concluded here today with religious ceremonies.
A “nagar kirtan” was taken out from Fatehgarh Sahib Gurdwara to Jyoti Swarup Sahib Gurdwara. The Panj Piaras led the nagar kirtan. School bands, gatka parties, Nihangs, Kirtani Jathas, Sukhmani Sahib Sewa Societies and various social, religious and political leaders accompanied the nagar kirtan.

The main attraction was the traditional martial arts “gatka” displayed by Nihangs and gatka teams.
Lakhs of devotees participated in the nagar kirtan and it covered a distance of 2 km in four hours.
A palanquin carrying Guru Granth Sahib was placed on a decorated four-wheeler. Giani Raghbir Singh, acting Jathedar of Takht Keshgarh Sahib, performed the concluding “ardas” at Gurdwara Jyoti Swarup Sahib.

In his message to the “Sikh Quam”, Giani Jagtar Singh, Head Granthi of Harmandir Sahib, called upon the Sikhs to follow the teachings of the Gurus. He advised organisers of community kitchens to serve simple food instead of dishes. He called upon the Sikhs to wage a war against drug abuse and female foeticide.
Addressing mediapersons, SSP Alka Meena thanked the devotees and all those who helped in conducting the Jor Mela in a peaceful and religious manner. She said no untoward incident was reported during the mela. She appreciated the police officers who did duty round the clock.

Amritsar: Shaheedi Diwas of Chhote Sahibzade Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh and Mata Gujri was observed on Wednesday with the bhog of Akhand Path at the Golden Temple’s Gurdwara Manji Sahib Diwan Hall.
Hazuri Ragi of Harmandar Sahib — Bhai Jarnail Singh — performed kirtan and Bhai Kulwinder Singh performed “ardas”. Gurdwara Manji Sahib’s Kathavachak Bhai — Harmittar Singh — narrated the sacrifice of young sahibzade against the unjust and tyrannical rule.
All employees of the SGPC converged at the hall of Teja Singh Samundri and performed ardas at 1 pm.
Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh directed the SGPC and Sikh families to devote at least five minutes in reading Japji Sahib.
