Chandigarh, January 8: After temporary respite from the cold conditions, the piercing chill was back at most places in Punjab and Haryana on Monday, with Pathankot recording the lowest temperature in the two states at 2.3 degree Celsius.
The meteorological department (MeT) officials said while Adampur reeled at 2.6 degree Celsius, Amritsar and Halwara recorded minimum temperatures of 3 degree Celsius and 3.1 degrees Celsius respectively. Ludhiana braved the chill at 5.5 degree Celsius, Patiala at 5.6 degree Celsius, Bathinda at 4.8 degree Celsius and Faridkot at 4 degree Celsius, the MeT officials said.
Chandigarh recorded a low of 5.6 degree Celsius, they said.
In Haryana, Hisar was the coldest place recording a minimum temperature of 4.9 degree Celsius.
The minimum temperature for both Karnal and Narnaul was 5 degree Celsius while Sirsa recorded a below normal temperature of 5.3 degree Celsius, MeT officials said. In Ambala, the minimum was recorded at 6.3 degree Celsius, they said.
Fog reduced visibility at Hisar, Karnal and Ludhiana this morning, the MeT officials said.
A bright and sunny Monday welcomed tourists in most parts of Himachal Pradesh after three days of widespread snowfall.
The minimum temperature was minus 0.7 degrees Celsius in Shimla, which saw 5 cm of snow. Destinations like Kufri, Fagu and Narkanda experienced moderate snowfall in the past 24 hours.
Snow could be seen in certain areas of Shimla like the Mall Road, Ridge, US Club and Jakhu hills and would stay for a few days more.
Keylong, district headquarters of Lahaul-Spiti, was the coldest in the state at a minimum of minus 12 degrees Celsius. It saw 6 cm of snow. The minimum temperature was minus 3.6 degree in Manali, minus 1.9 degrees in Dalhousie, minus 4.5 degrees in Kufri and 1.8 degrees Celsius in Dharamsala.
