Ludhiana, January 16, 2018: Punjab Local Bodies, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu has invited non-resident Indians (NRIs), especially Punjabis to come and invest in the state for all-round development of their motherland.
Sidhu, who was here on Tuesday to participate in a two-day international conference in local Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College, claimed that the state government would welcome NRIs with open arms and it would leave no stone unturned to solve their issues promptly.
In an appeal to around 2-crore NRIs Punjabi living abroad, the Minister said the state government ensures them a corruption-free and pro-industry atmosphere in Punjab with a dedicated single-window system to facilitate them.
Navjot Singh Sidhu said that manufacturing and tourism are key areas where NRIs can invest vastly and can open new doors of the progress. He said that Punjab which gave India a green revolution and white revolution once, need NRIs to come forward and help the government in making Punjab, a forefront from other states in the country.
He targeted the previous government for neglecting the NRIs and their problems.
He announced to set up a chair for Punjabi Diaspora in a state university. Later, he also said that the state government would give Rs 25 lakh in next five years to establish a ‘Parvasi Literature Study Centre’ in Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College.
Interacting with media persons on this occasion, the Minister said that as Congress party swept MC polls in Jalandhar, Amritsar, and Patiala, it would also easily win civic elections in Ludhiana too as people are ready to vote in the favour of the Congress government for the city’s development.
He said the city’s MLAs would be consulted during the distribution of the tickets.
Meanwhile, Dr. SP Singh ex Vice-Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) Amritsar welcomed the guests and informed them about the importance of holding this conference. Two Punjabi books were also released by Minister and others.
Eminent Punjabi novelist Dr. Dalip Kaur Tiwana gave an inaugural speech and Dr. Amritpal Kaur delivered the keynote address. Special speeches were also given by Sukhi Bath, founder of Punjab Bhawan at Surrey, Canada, Dr. Bhupinder Singh, Principal Dr. Arvinder Singh and Gurbhajan Singh Gill. MLAs Bharat Bhushan Ashu and Sanjeev Talwar were also present.
The objective of the conference was to provide a common platform to Punjabi writers, Scholars and Intellectuals settled in various foreign countries for making an effort to discuss the starting of Punjabi Literature, its achievements and other aspects.
