Chandigarh, August 18: Training guns on erstwhile state government led by the Shiromani Akali Dal, Punjab cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu has asked chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh to allot him the home portfolio to enable him to act against the “economic terrorism being run by some political leaders in Punjab”.
Talking about the poor financial condition of the state and the mafias being run by the previous government, Sidhu said, “Captain saab mere sarr te hath rakhan, mai ehna nu gatth ban ke situnga (If Captain keeps his hand on my head, I will throw these people {SAD leaders} out).”
Ostensibly referring to some SAD leaders, Sidhu added, “Je captain saab menu do din vaaste police wala mehakma de den, menu maa da put na aakhi, je main kuch na kita (If Captain gives me police department (home portfolio) for two days, do not call me my mother’s son if I don’t prove myself).”
Speaking on the sidelines of the commemoration ceremony of Shaheed Master Karnail Singh Isru at Isru village in Khanna, Sidhu told HT that he had been repeatedly talking about the economic terrorism that had ruined Punjab under the rule of the previous state government.
He accused the SAD government of running transport, cable, liquor and sand mafias, and held it responsible for the breakdown of the industrial sector and usurping businesses. “It is not that we are not taking action. You will see action very soon,” he said.
While addressing the audience, Sidhu said Punjab Roadways was suffering losses of over Rs 500 crore and also mimed former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal’s slogan of “Raj Nahi Seva”, accusing him of destroying Punjab’s economy. “SAD did such service in 10 years that Punjab is now facing a debt of Rs 3.5 lakh crore,” he said. During the event, Sidhu announced a grant of Rs 20 lakh for the stadium at Isru village.
