Singla unveils statue of Punjab’s first ‘land reformist’ Baba Banda Singh Bahadar

Chandigarh/Fatehgarh Sahib, October 16: Public Works Minister Vijay Inder Singla today unveiled statue of first Sikh ruler Baba Banda Singh Bahadar here today at state level function.

Terming his role as epoch making, Singla said that his contribution to bestowed proprietary rights of land to landless farmers will be remembered as historical and remarkable. He said that he is the first ruler of Punjab who initiated the land reforms and provide proprietary rights to peasants.

Highlighting his entire journey from Lachhman Dass to Baba Banda Singh Bahadar, he said that he set the stage to root out Mughal Empire. He stated that the Baba Banda Singh Bahadar laid down his life for the cause to root out the tyranny of contemporary Mughal Rulers.

Talking about the development agenda of the state government led by Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, the Cabinet Minister said that land of Fatehgarh Sahib and Sangrur will become number one spot in terms of development.

Speaking about the ongoing farmers struggle, Mr. Singla said that the Union Government led by Narendra Modi wants to grab the land of farmers which were bestowed by Baba Banda Singh Bahadar but the farmers of the state would not tolerate this and give befitting reply. He said that farm struggle against three black farm laws will continue with full vigour.

The Cabinet Minister said that Punjabis have immense contribution in freedom movement. He said that today a 12 feet high statue of Baba Banda Singh Bahadar has installed at the Chowk which will be known as  Baba Banda Singh Bahadar Chowk onwards.

He said that he was well known acquantice of Kuljit Singh Nagra from the times of his father and this legacy will continue. He also talk about the Lakhimpur incident and the contribution of congress to ensure justice.

Earlier, MLA Fatehgarh Sahib Kuljit Singh Nagra underlined the entire journey of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur to eradicate the Mughal oppression.

He said that development of this pious land is just a Sewa of people of the area. He also demanded more funds for development from Mr. Singla with lighter notes.

He termed his victory as a triumph of common man, sarpanches, panches, block samiti member of the district. He said that every panchayat of the district has enough funds in their accounts.

He said that he has the plan to develop the Fatehgarh Sahib as self sufficient constituency in terms of development with environment friendly methods. He said that his mission is inevitable to provide transparent governance in the district so the interests of the people would be safeguarded. 

He also highlighted the four lane road  projects and development of the link roads of the district as model for entire state. He added that the development shows from roads and now the district become a model with specially allocated Rs. 404 crore for various road projects of the district. 

On this ocassion, MLA Bassi Pathana Gurpreet Singh GP acknowledged the role of Kuljit Singh Nagra for overall development of Fatehgarh Sahib. He said that opposition also acknowledged his contribution towards development of the district such as road projects.

He said that the government had spent minimum Rs. 50 lakh in every village of his constituency. Hailing the contribution of Mr. Singla to built Landran junction, he expressed gratitude towards PWD Minister for this project.

Chairman Safai Karamchari Commission Gejja Ram, Deputy Commissioner Surbhi Malik, District President Congress Committee Subhash Sood were also present.
