New Delhi, January 20: The IMD has issued red alert for rain/snow at most places over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal on Monday and Tuesday with also heavy to very heavy falls at few places. A snowfall red alert posted by the IMD on its website says a Western Disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation is lying over Afghanistan and neighbourhood along with a trough.
An orange alert has also been issued for Uttarakhand for January 21 and 22 and Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh for January 22.
The IMD says Punjab on Tuesday will see rainfall at most places with heavy falls at isolated places.
An induced cyclonic circulation lies over West Rajasthan and adjoining Central Pakistan and it would move over Punjab and adjoining Haryana between Sunday and Tuesday. In addition, there would be high moisture feeding from Arabian Sea over northwest India specifically over Western Himalayan Region (WHR) on these three days.

Strong wind convergence at mid and upper tropospheric levels over WHR and wind confluence at lower levels over plains of northwest India would also occur during same period.
It also says that hailstorm is very likely at isolated places over Jammu division, lower reaches of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, north Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on January 21.
Strong surface wind speed reaching occasionally 20-30 kmph gusting to 40 kmph likely over plains of northwest India during January 21 and 22, which will reduce subsequently between January 23 and 24.
