Chandigarh, December 7: In a bid to create awareness amongst people about the legal procedure of adoption, the Department of Social Security and Women and Child Development has decided launching massive training-cum-workshops program throughout Punjab from December 10.
Disclosing this, an official spokesperson said that the Department has divided the state into four zones to implement this awareness program efficaciously. He said that this endeavour was being taken to make the masses aware of legal process besides preventing illegal adoptions. Under the Hindu Adoptation and Maintenance Act, 1956 and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, a child could be adopted within a legal framework , said Spokesperson adding that despite existence of both laws, illegal adoption were still prevalent.
Giving details about the awareness program to begin from December 10, the spokesperson said that the Training-cum-workshops would be organized in Districts SBS Nagar, Patiala, Bathinda and Jalandhar. He said that the first workshop would be held at K.C. Group of Institution, Gate no. 2 Kariam Road, S. B. S. Nagar on December 10, 2019. People from district Gurdaspur, Rupnagar, Hoshiarpur and S. B. S. Nagar would participate.
Similarly, the second workshop will be held on December 16 at Thapar University, Adarsh Nagar, Bhadson Road, Patiala where the participants from Sangrur, Patiala, S.A S. Nagar, Fatehgarh Sahib and Barnala would be apprised about adoption process and formalities.
The third workshop will be held on December 20 at Chhabra Palace, Backside Sports Stadium, Bathinda for the districts Bathinda, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Fazilka, Sri Muktsar Sahib and Mansa. Likewise, the fourth workshop will be organised at Red Cross Bhawan, Lajpat Nagar Jalandhar, on December 26 for the districts Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Pathankot, Ludhiana and Moga.
The spokesperson further said that persons, desired to join the workshop can register themselves free by contact their District Program Officers or District Child Protection Officer through email or telephone numbers two days prior to the workshops in their respective zones.
