Sukhbir cautions cops over ‘targeting’ Akalis

Date:

Amritsar, July 25: Akali Dal president Sukhbir Badal on Tuesday accused Congress leaders of indulging in vendetta politics by implicating Akalis in frivolous cases.

Warning the police officials, he said those playing into the hands of the Congress to target Akalis would face action after the SAD-BJP returned to power.

Sukhbir, who was here to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple, said: “My advice to them is to be guided by law and take action against wrongdoers, but stop showing false sense of loyalty towards the Congress. A number of baseless cases have been registered against our workers only to harass them. On coming back to power, we will not only identify such cases, but also take stern action against the officials concerned.”

Sukhbir said Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s decision to conduct dope test on all government employees would malign the state’s image.

Supporting the SGPC in opposing mandatory helmets for women riders in Chandigarh, Sukhbir said the matter pertained to Sikh “rehat maryada” and no government should interfere in it.
