MLA Profile:

Sukhjit Kaur Sahi is the wife of late Bharatiya Janta Party leader Amarjit Singh Sahi, who represented Dasuya. He died of a cardiac arrest on June 3, 2012, in Chandigarh. He was 55 years old at the time of his death. Following Amarjit Singh’s death, his widow Sukhjit Kaur was nominated for Dasuya.

Dasuya (Dasua) is a municipal council in Hoshiarpur district. The provisional statistics for the 2001 census of India show that Dasuya had a population of 20,118. Males constituted 52% of the population and females 48%. The average literacy rate was 76%, which was higher than the national average of 59.5%. Male literacy was 79% and female literacy was 73%. Of the the ustal population, 11% was under 6 years of age.

Sahi first became a member of Punjab Legislative Assembly in 2007 by winning election from Dasuya. He successfully contested again in 2012. He was appointed Chief Parliamentary Secretary for revenue.
