Chandigarh, 11 May
Amid the ongoing tussle between the Kejriwal government and the Center over rights, today the honorable Supreme Court has given an important decision in favor of the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government of Delhi. On this occasion, AAP Punjab Chief Spokesperson Malwinder Singh Kang praised this decision and called it a victory of democracy.
Addressing a press conference from the party office in Chandigarh, Malwinder Kang said that it is a victory for democracy that the Hon’ble Court has stamped the authority of the Delhi government to take administrative decisions, including appointments and transfers of officers in various departments. He said that at a time when the Modi government at the center is constantly trying to establish its dictatorship by abolishing the rights of all the states of the country including Delhi, the courts are the last hope to save the democracy and today’s decision proves it. The Hon’ble Supreme Court will not allow anyone to tamper with the spirit of the Constitution.
Malwinder Kang said that the BJP’s unnecessary interference in the work of the elected governments of the states through the governor and lieutenant governor, constantly limiting the rights of the states and weakening them. It is at odds with the federal structure of our country. He said that this attitude of BJP is not in the interest of the country in any way.
Referring to Delhi’s Arvind Kejriwal government, Kang said that the people of Delhi elected Kejriwal as their chief minister by giving a huge majority twice. But the central BJP government continued to interfere in their work and issued a notification taking away the right to transfer officers. He said that Arvind Kejriwal has fought a long battle for the rights of the people of the country and Delhi for the past decade and today the honorable Supreme Court has given a big blow to BJP’s dictatorship.
Malwinder Kang warned the BJP that the time has come for the Center to understand that dictatorship will no longer exist in the country and people will oppose it from the streets to the Parliament. He also thanked the honorable Supreme Court along with the people who supported Arvind Kejriwal in the fight for the rights of the people of Delhi.
