The Punjab Cabinet led by Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday approved the Punjab Custom Milling Policy for Paddy (Kharif 2019-20), with more security provisions, including criminal penalty for diversion of rice.
In a bid to revive sick rice units, the Punjab Council of Ministers on Monday approved a Dues Recovery & Settlement Scheme 2019-20 for the state’s defaulting rice millers, paving the way for the recovery of a significant portion of the Rs 2041.51 crore outstanding against them on various accounts.
Some family members of those killed in the blast at a firecracker unit at Batala in Gurdaspur district early this week urged Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to ban such illegal factories in residential areas to prevent the recurrence of such mishaps. The victims' families also requested the CM to provide government jobs to the kin of deceased.
Ex-SDM Patti Anupreet Kaur along with five others has been booked by Patti police for embezzling Rs 1.63 crore from the government treasury. The embezzlement allegedly took place between January 9, 2018 and February 11, 2019.
