Gurdaspur, August 7: A 15-year-old boy allegedly strangled an eight-year-old girl using the cord of a cellphone charger at Joggowal Jattan village in the district.
The accused reportedly tried to rape her, but when she resisted, he killed her. The incident took place late on Sunday evening.
Swarandeep Singh, SSP, said: “The boy allegedly lured the girl, a Class III student, to his house and tried to rape her. When she resisted, he made her sit on a chair and tied her legs and hands with shoelaces. He then took the wire of a mobile phone charger and tightened it around the girl’s neck, leading to her death.”
He said Dhariwal police station SHO Amandeep Randhawa had received information about the missing girl late on Sunday night, following which a search was launched. “In the early hours on Monday, the team received a tip-off that a village boy was acting in a suspicious manner. We rounded him up and questioned him. After an hour, he revealed the sequence of events leading to the murder,” he said.
The girl’s body was recovered from the house of an Army man, who had asked the father of the accused to act as its caretaker. The case would be proceeded against the accused under the Juvenile Act, the SSP said.
